According to the Athens newspaper To Vima of 8 July 2004, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew responded to the "3rd Rome" theory of the Patriarch of Moscow (which had been brought up for discussion during the 8th International Assemblage of the Russian Orthodox Church).

- I fully agree with the standpoint of Russian Orthodox Church. The Ecumenical Patriarch forgot that Greeks betrayed Orthodoxy three times:
1. Lyon Union
2. Florence Union
3. The latest meeting of Pope and Patriarch Bartolomew
During this latest meeting in Istanbul, Patriarch Bartolomew acted as "Eastern Pope" he spoke in the name of all Orthodox people. He didn't have right to do that! The Greeks have to get over the fact that Constantinople does not exist any more - it is Istanbul!
Therefore, the Orthodox people need a new Empire that will protect them. And that will be Holy Russia. We Serbians fully support this Idea of 3rd Rome- Moscow, because we share one blood and one Faith with the Russian People.
God Bless President PUTIN and entire RUSSIA!

- Let those who are aware of the recent events regarding Ukraine and Estonia, and of what happened to Serbian Church two centuries ago (Constantinople's demand of the Turks to shut down the Pec Patriarchate) express their opinion. I have a Paschal Newsletter ofa Greek parish in Indiana, USA which refer to Patriarch of Constantinople as "the spiritual eader of millions of Americans and 250 million Orthodox Christians around the world." This includes Russian Church, Serbian Church, Syrian Church and all other local Churches. Let us see a tree in our own eye and only then be concerned ewith a speck in our brother's eye.

- You agree with the position that have no support at the Ecumenical Orthodoxy. Also this position will NEVER be agreed with most of Orthodox churches.
The 3-rd Rome theory will lead Russian Orthodox Church to the nationalism and will tear it away form all other Orthodox churches.
